Would you place the North East’s former world Cruiserweight boxing champ as the best friend of a legendary writer? On the surface the combination might seem a bit odd, but when you learn that the pair are Glenn McCrory and sports journalist John Gibson, you realise that it could well be a match made in heaven. That chemistry is what The Stand are bringing to the stage on Monday 26th January as the pair line up for a charity talk-in.

Dubbed The Writer and the Fighter, the talk-in will see the pair recounting tales from their personal and professional lives. Considering how much the pair have been through, it’s sure to be an interesting – and even at times humourous – insight into the lives of two of the biggest names in North East sport.

The proceeds from the night are all going to Geordie athlete Drew Graham, who tragically broke his back diving into a creek in America while training for an upcoming triathlon. After having six operations, Graham and his wife are being left with huge medical bills, which McCrory and Gibson want to help with. His father Gary Graham said: “This is a wonderful gesture by two of the region’s most revered sporting icons. As a sportsperson, Drew knows all about Glenn’s world championship boxing matches and, like most Geordies, he read avidly John Gibson’s articles and columns to get the crack about Newcastle.”
