If you’re yet to visit Sunderland’s swankiest new venue, now is your chance. As part of the ever-wonderful Sunderland Stages Autumn/Winter programme, The Peacock will be presenting a night of invigorating spoken word and performance poetry in the form of The Toll, starring the renowned poet Luke Wright and ‘the world’s first door-to-door poet’ Rowan McCabe.

In this striking performance, comedy and darkness appear hand in hand: whilst the characters struggle with the comic instances of the day-to-day (such as shouting at BBC Question Time), it is impossible to ignore that there is a certain vulnerability in Luke Wright’s words, which are spoken with passion and vigour.

The duo behind the show aim to explore the dim worlds of both Brexit Britain and the gas-lit streets of 19th Century London, as a plethora of characters (including a particularly vicious portrayal Iain Duncan Smith), try to navigate through each and every one of life’s moral conundrums.

To see these raconteurs at the very pinnacle of their game, spinning words and spitting rhymes, get yourself down to the Peacock on Thursday 12th October – be sure to keep your eye out for more mint Sunderland Stages events at the venue!
