All across the country, poets are taking to their soapboxes and giving a unique voice to the stories that are within all of us, whether it’s about mythological women or reasons for love. Quirky, political and everything in-between, these spoken word artists aren’t afraid to address anything that modern life might throw at them.

Organised by Apples and Snakes, The Soapbox Tour is a unique commission that aims to showcase some of the most talented of these poets and artists, giving them a platform to showcase their work and inspire an audience to unleash the narratives within themselves. As the tour rolls up to Newcastle’s Alphabetti Theatre, Essex’s Justin Coe, Birmingham native Jasmine Gardosi, Bristolian Shagufta K and Newcastle’s own AJ McKenna will be exploring a number of diverse and interesting topics, from sexuality and death to mental health and violence, through spoken word performances and enough heart-warming humour to keep anyone entertained. Directed by Hannah Silva (praised for being one of the most entertaining poets in the country), the showcase will be opening people’s eyes to the awe-inspiring power of the spoken word and perhaps convincing a few of us to put pen to paper.

The Soapbox Tour comes to the Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle on Wednesday 14th October.
