Promoters of some of the finest DIY gigs the North East has to offer, Music For Lovers have another trick up their sleeve on Monday 29th June as they bring Columbus, Ohio’s The Sidekicks to the Head of Steam. Former purveyors of gruff, gritty punk-rock, the three-piece have since undergone an evolution of sound, maturing into more melodic, jangly indie stylings to produce their outstanding latest release Runners In The Nerved World. Now signed to Epitaph Records, The Sidekicks remain dedicated to their DIY roots, though their latest offering is a tour de force of melodic hooks and pop structures. Joining them on their UK tour are Southern trio Great Cynics, with this being their first ever Newcastle date. Soon to release their new record I Feel Weird, the band play insanely infectious and uplifting indie punk rock inspired by the likes of The Get Up Kids and The Lemonheads. Rounding up the bill are Durham pop-punk scamps Martha, whose debut LP Courting Strong is one of the most life-affirming releases of recent years. Their addition to this stellar line-up will no doubt be the makings of an equally life-affirming gig.

The Sidekicks, Great Cynics and Martha play Head of Steam, Newcastle on Monday 29th June.
