Back in April, seminal Scottish punk/new wave band The Rezillos released their second album, and it only took 37 years after their debut. A tour is now in full swing too, and Friday 4th December gives a chance for punks young and old to see the group at The Cluny.

The band have been reacquainted with their old fan base after supporting The Stranglers on their recent tour, but new fans have been picked up with their songs being played in Jackass, The Movie and of course, the internet and the passionate fans of punk rock has seen many people stumbling across these underrated gems.

There are lots of poppy hooks to grab attention, with a raw, frenetic energy that keeps the sound firmly in the punk camp; there’ll be a live collection of songs that will bring to mind feelings of punk’s 1970s heyday.

A garage rock, girl group influenced sound is still present, with new album Zero sounding like a band still doing what comes naturally, rather than clutching at past glories, and there’s enough energy on the record, to suggest a bouncing live gig is in store.

The Rezillos play at The Cluny, Newcastle on Friday 4th December.
