We’re fortunate in the North East of England to have had a long and tremendously varied musical heritage. We’re even more fortunate to have that celebrated, through all the triumphs and tragedies, with a musical look at our region’s coal mining history, by The Pitmen Poets, four mighty musicians and champions of our region’s past. They’re taking in various dates, with the first heading to The Witham, Barnard Castle on Saturday 16th January.

It’s a truly special collection of talented folk, featuring ex-Lindisfarne singer and songwriter Billy Mitchell, renowned singer and instrumentalist Bob Fox, leading exponent of Tyneside song Benny Graham, and much-covered Durham songwriter Jez Lowe. As individuals and collectively, they celebrate a key period in our region’s history, through song and spoken word. With a tour taking in cities and towns across the North of England, which also include Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Newcastle on Saturday 30th and Durham’s Gala Theatre on Sunday 31st January, where they’ll have breathed life, with humour and song, into tales of the trials and tribulations of the North East England’s coal mining tradition.
