Consider yourself a bit of a wordsmith? Or ever wanted to try your hand at some spoken word performance? Yorkshire troupe A Firm of Poets are offering a great opportunity for people to exercise their rhyming skills at a workshop and performance at Arts Centre Washington on Thursday 8th October. Coinciding with National Poetry Day, the participatory event titled The People’s Republic of Poetry will contain performances from a super-group of working poets in the style of Whose Line Is It Anyway, whilst opening the mic up to any eager members of the audience. The pre-show workshop will take place earlier in the day and offers the chance for people hone their writing and performing skills in order to become part of the show itself. Special guests at the event include Gateshead-based poet Jenny Pascoe who also runs spoken word open mic night JibbaJabba and Newcastle performance poet Rowan McCabe, whose sets include storytelling and elements of stand-up and theatre. As well as this, participants will have the chance to have any of their poems submitted to a live online document, which will be added to as the tour continues around the UK.

The People’s Republic of Poetry is at Arts Centre Washington on Thursday 8th October.
