Reliably informed

It’s good to talk… Or that’s what an advert for a certain telecommunications company instilled in us growing up. In these days of social distancing and isolation this is increasingly relevant and if you work in the uncertain dystopian, stress-filled landscape of the music industry in COVID-19 times, then this becomes even more relevant.

To help initiate a conversation around the future of the North East’s music industry, promote and develop ideas for supporting the region’s music scene, as well as provide an opportunity for the wider music community to get to know one another, Newcastle based music support agency Generator and Sage Gateshead presents an exciting new series of meet-ups for musicians and the music industry called The North East Music Industry Meet Up, or NEMIMU for those who like abbreviations.

Hannah Matterson, CEO at Generator said, “The music industry is facing some tough times right now, but those in the North East are known for being resilient. We wanted to set up a forum that encouraged conversation for all those who are connected to the music industry, either as an artist, a venue or a practitioner.

There’s strength in our music community and we want to encourage a collective response and action to the challenges we might face over the coming months”

The NEMIMU is aimed at those finding their feet in a music career, through to independent venues, tour managers or sound technicians. The first one takes place via Zoom on 28th July from 1.30-3pm and will be hosted by Generator CEO Hannah Matterson. It will revolve around the question, “How will the North East music industry adjust to the ‘new normal’?”, followed by networking afterwards.
