Reliably informed

Looking at The Mirror Trap, you might think that they’re just another flash in the pan indie rock’n’roll band with a decent photographer, good haircuts and not a lot else. In actual fact, the Dundee-based band not only have a penchant for full-blooded rock inspired by everyone from Queens of the Stone Age to Death Grips, but they can also say that they’ve done it all entirely by themselves. In lieu of a record deal, the group have released one full album – 2014’s Stay Young – and a more recent EP all on their own steam. Their shiny, hyper-professional recordings belie the highly DIY operation behind the scenes, but it’s hard not to like The Mirror Trap for their sheer enthusiasm, passion and determination alone, something they’ll be bringing to Newcastle’s Think Tank this week.

On the night, the group are supported by three of the region’s best rising bands. Stockton’s Cellar Door are providing the main support with their post-punk and indie fusion, while Newcastle trio Ilser are currently gearing up to release what should be a new single that promises more gothic vibes and dark rock riffs. Hartlepool’s Shoot the Poet round off the line up with their fresh¬†indie pop, and are set to provide a buoyant start to the evening.

The Mirror Trap, Cellar Door, Ilser and Shoot the Poet all play at Think Tank, Newcastle on Friday 17th July.
