Teesside promoters Big Figure are bringing both quality and quantity to Middlesbrough on Friday 25th March when they host five bands from across the punk rock spectrum at Westgarth Social Club.

The Membranes‘ history reads like the screenplay to the definitive punk rock movie. Formed in Blackpool by John Robb and Mike Tilton in 1977, they’ve toured the world and been kicked off labels, but their recordings have been hugely influential on the alternative and punk scenes in both Europe and the USA.

Since re-forming in the late noughties with a new line-up, the mercurial post-punkers can hardly be accused of trading on former glories. After playing a selection of ATP shows at the request of Shellac and My Bloody Valentine, 2015 saw the release of their cosmically inspired and critically acclaimed album, Dark Matter/Dark Energy which received glowing reviews from the likes of The Quietus and NME and got solid airplay from BBC 6Music. A tour support gig with The Stranglers and an intriguing one-off show performing with a thirty-piece choir in Estonia rounded off a pretty stellar year.

Support comes from art-punks Klammer, Yorkshire’s Flies On You and Fat Spatula and Teesside’s own scene stars Fleckt Pets, providing plenty more bang for your buck.
