The closures of the UK’s mines had a drastic effect of our region, and a new play which marks the closure of one of the UK’s last remaining deep seam mines is coming to The Peacock in Sunderland on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th October.

Commemorating mining communities and exploring the closure of the Hatfield Main pit in June 2015, the play is sure to resonate with a lot of those in the city, and is a real stand-out of the Sunderland Stages Autumn season. Written by Garry Lyons echoes the stories behind the UK’s mining heritage and gives voice to former miners, and keeps those from the mining communities in the spotlight. Covering from the 1984-85 miner’s strike through to the closure of the mine and the Brexi referendum, this play is along at an ideal time, immensely relevant and makes sure a key part of our region’s history is not forgotten.

The Last Seam is at The Peacock, Sunderland on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th October.
