The Fallen Leaves have a manifesto; a set of rules that they – and probably all of us – should live by. No jeans, no t-shirts and no cover versions is something we can all get behind, right?
Formed in London in 2004, they’re described by Louder Than War as “the best kept secret in rock’n’roll”, and I won’t be arguing with that. Purveyors of a garage sound that mines the rich seam of seminal acts from The Who to Dr Feelgood, with a few shovels of The Kinks and The Ramones thrown in for good measure, they deliver a heady dose of punk rock for gentlemen: take Against the Grain from their last record as a perfect example of their frenetic energetic and sartorially accomplished vision
Self-proclaimed champions of the glorious underachievers, their new album What We’ve Been Waiting For is released on Friday 20th March and if it touches on their previous efforts, we’ll be hoping for that same glorious melange of raw, aggressive rock laced with sweet sixties style harmonies.
The Fallen Leaves are at Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough on Saturday 11th March with support coming from Teesside kings of Hammond-driven garage rock King Mojo and Sunderland rockers Sound Reaction.
