There are a few things that you should never do in a horror film: say everything’s going to be alright, put your guard down, be a woman or a from an ethnic minority oh, and don’t have sex (seriously, everyone who has sex in horror film dies). And don’t under any circumstances go into the ridiculously creepy forest. That’s just asking for trouble. But surely it’s okay to venture out there for a Picnic Cinema event, right? What’s the worst that could happen?

Don’t worry, nothing will happen to you in Hamsterley Forest, despite it being prime zombie-roaming territory. Stick together and watch The Evil Dead, that’ll calm your nerves. The cult classic gore-fest is getting an outdoor screening just outside of Bishop Auckland but that’s not all you can expect from Picnic Cinema’s latest event. A zombie-themed quiz, prize for the best dressed zombie (the more decayed the better), and more fun and games are happening as well. If it all gets a bit too much then you can always drag your fleshy, rotten bones to the Hamsterley Forest Tea Rooms for a bit of light refreshment (no they don’t serve brains, but one must still dine well in a zombie apocalypse).

Come one come all to the undead ball…

The Evil Dead screens in Hamsterley Forest, outside of Bishop Auckland, on Saturday 18th July.
