How many bands can you name from The Netherlands? It’s quite difficult. Even though Holland has a thriving live music scene and a host of dedicated, underground music publications, it’s hard to think of a band that have made the trip across the channel and become successful. Enschede-born noise rock quartet The Daydream Fit might be one of the first. Influenced by the likes of Fugazi, Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr, the band are currently working on their second EP and “other things” (mysterious) but have still managed to take time out to bring their blistering live show to Tyneside’s Nerd Hutch.

Joining them on the night are local, punk-infused alt rockers Picture Frames, who’ll be playing tracks from their recently released EP Playground. German duo Andalucia are also making the trip from the continent across to Newcastle, showcasing songs from their Dinosaur Jr-tinged LP There Are Two of Us. Rounding off the bill are post-punks Solanas, who are described as being a bit like Joy Division but with more screaming. For anyone who likes their rock a bit heavier and more challenging, it’s a night not to be missed (especially since it’s free entry, don’tcha know).

The Daydream Fit, Picture Frames, Andalucia and Solanas all play at the Nerd Hutch, Newcastle on Wednesday 27th May.
