Reliably informed

Intergalactic Glaswegians The Cosmic Dead received a thoroughly warm welcome when they last played for Leave Me Here at The Tyne Bar, so much so that they’re back for another round. Wiith their psych-laden, krautrock-tinged voyages into the furthest reaches of music’s universe, the band describe themselves as “Scotland’s foremost Hawkwind tribute” (don’t worry, there’s no Hawkwind covers. To our knowledge). Building on an impressive back catalogue, their latest release was a split single with Mugstar which was more like a mini-album in itself – ‘Fukahyoocastulah’ turned out to be 25 minutes of slow-burning progressive rock. If you’re in the mood for an atmospheric wig-out, they’ve got you covered.

The group are joined by the one-man wonder Girl Sweat, bringing his custom tape deck, steel guitar and echoed out vocals to the stage for more shenanigans in the realms of fuzzy logic. Rounding off the bill are special guests Apologies and their brand of intelligent but noisy rock.

And the best part? It’s all completely free, gratis, nada. So how can you resist a journey into the furthest reaches of outer space?

The Cosmic Dead, Girl Sweat and Apologies play at The Tyne Bar, Newcastle on Monday 7th September.
