As the unabashedly infectious culprits behind the 2002 jingly hit Dreaming Of You, The Coral’s new album Distance Inbetween is the band’s studio eighth record and their first in five years. The band play Newcastle’s Riverside on Friday 4th March, the day their new album finally sees the light.

The Liverpudlian lads haven’t been all feet during their hiatus though, with several members pursuing solo projects over the last couple of years. After first bursting onto the music scene in 2001 following the release of their debut EP The Oldest Path, they soared through the UK charts, gaining a mass fan base and cementing their status as one of the most influential groups of the noughties.

From dabbling with hazy acoustic ballads to hyperactive psych, The Coral have never been ones to shy away from experimentation, an aspect clearly visible after a listen to their genre-jumping debut self-titled album. The anticipation for Distance Inbetween is one that will be greeted with an air of unpredictability, but undeniable excitement.
