Having transformed themselves a year ago from a woodwork shop into a pop-up venue, and hosting a range of events including Evolution Emerging sets and taking part in The Late Shows and Ouseburn Open Studios, Cobalt Studios in the Ouseburn Valley will be broadening their horizons further still as they host their quarterly seasonal events.
Carefully curated to feature local talent alongside national and international acts, the Cobalt Seasonals will work alongside some of the brightest creative producers, cultural providers, DJ collectives and bands to offer up a night of utterly unique entertainment.
“The intention is to create a platform where art, film, animation, performance, even magic are served up alongside live music and recorded music.” Says Cobalt’s Kathryn Hodgkinson. “Our approach is to look far and wide for little known and high quality acts served up in a low tech and high colour environment, each party will be a journey with some unexpected twists.”
Their Winter event takes place on Saturday 28th January and features the awesome talents of nine-piece Afro-fusion band Z.O.G And The Zongo Brigade, who bring their infectious soul, funk and reggae vibes from Ghana via Sheffield, plus DJ collective Seek Magic who offer up a genre-spanning set of dancefloor fillers, and two more acts to be announced.
In addition to the Cobalt Seasonal events, the venue are also gearing up to be included in the region’s festival calendar alongside a series of four Supper Club events and the Cobalt Sunday Club, taking place on four Sundays throughout the year and providing a full day of relaxed pursuits including ping pong, board games and delicious food.
The venue’s policy is open and inclusive, and they’re keen to work with a variety of cultural producers throughout the year to create eclectic, surprising and unique events, with the hope of cementing their reputation as innovative programmers.
