In the past week, Pop Recs have already announced a string of high profile gigs, including appearances from Little Comets and Dutch Uncles, but now they’ve really pulled the cat out of the bag. Britpop legends The Charlatans are set to play the venue on Saturday 21st February, ahead of their performance at the Sage for the BBC 6 Music Festival.

Frontman Tim Burgess has been a long-time admirer of the Sunderland record store, ran by members of Frankie & the Heartstrings, because of its DIY ethos and dedication to bringing live music to the town. On the subject, he said:  “I love record shops and I love spending time in them. I think it was Edwyn Collins that first told me about Pop Recs. I got in touch with them and I played there when I was doing a solo tour.”

The gig comes on the back of the release of the band’s twelfth album, Modern Nature, but they’re likely to delight a packed-out audience with classics from their extensive back catalogue.

The Charlatans will play Pop Recs Ltd, Sunderland, on Saturday 21st February. Tickets for the event go on sale at 2pm on Sunday 15th February.
