The Blockheads are perhaps best known for being the band behind the charismatic Ian Dury. When Dury sadly died in 2000, the band continued to write and record music as well as tour; now fronted by Derek Hussey, the band are coming to The Sage Gateshead on Friday 12th December.

Since Dury was well known for his observations of working class life and for his poetic lyrics; this hasn’t changed in The Blockheads’ new material, but Hussey and co. have added some perceptive insights into 21st Century life to their songs. Still, you can expect the band to play some of their old standards – such as Reasons to Be Cheerful (Part Three), Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick and What A Waste – alongside their more recent material.

The Blockheads play the Sage on Friday 12th December.
