2019 Young Artist Award Winner Juliet Gibbs – Scaffold

James Peel, Gerald Laing, Jane and Louise Wilson, Cathleen Mann, Newcastle has a history of producing some truly fine artists. It’s also a city which is home to some excellent art galleries, one of which is The Biscuit Factory, whose charitable arm, The Biscuit Factory Foundation is on the lookout for up-and-coming artistic talent (under 35 years of age) via their Contemporary Young Artist Award.

The winner of the 2020 awards will be given the opportunity for a solo show at Newcastle gallery as well as being awarded £2000 in prize money. Those shortlisted for the prize will also headline its spring programme for the first time. Although the winner will be picked by the gallery’s in-house curatorial team, the public will be given the opportunity to pick their favourite and that winner will be awarded £500 pounds.

Rachel Brown, General Manager of The Biscuit Factory explains further, “We’re proud to announce the growth of this annual open call, which now in its fourth year, will be presented as our headline show for the spring season.

“It is a testament to the quality of entries and the fantastic public response the exhibition receives, that we have been able to develop this concept to be a significant part of our gallery programming. We humbly hope that for the artists involved, this evolution of the exhibition will provide even greater visibility to help launch or progress their careers.”

Submissions are accepted before 26 January 2020 and is open to fine art, photography, original handmade prints, sculpture, glass, ceramics and textiles. For more information on how to enter the competition, visit The Biscuit Factory website.
