Reliably informed

It’s just a matter of days until the general election. Funny how the time has flown by. Well, I say flown by, what I should probably clarify is that the last few weeks have gone relatively quickly but the last five years, thanks to a series of government-inspired cuts in the region, have dragged more horribly than a bit of loo paper stuck to your shoe in a grim toilet. Not to worry though, because north east playwright Ed Waugh is back to put his spin on things after the success of his play Maggie’s End.

Alongside John Scott, who writes and hosts the comedy show Sod the Tories at The Stand in Newcastle, Waugh came up with the script for The Accidental Activist, a play that sees one man’s struggle to resist protest but is drawn into it when budget cuts start to seriously impact on his own cosy lifestyle. Scott describes the new play as “a cross between The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists and Citizen Smith with a bit of Russell Brand hoyed in.” What better combination could there be for a highly humorous examination of the times we live in?

If you feel like you want to have a bit of a chuckle at some of the absurdities of austerity, then The Accidental Activist is sure to put a smile on your face.

The Accidental Acitivist is touring around the region from Monday¬†27th April. More details on the tour dates can be found on Ed Waugh’s official website.
