A play packed with raw emotion, dealing with a modern tragedy at a football stadium comes to Live Theatre on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th September. Tackling the heartbreaking story of a fire at Bradford City’s Valley Parade ground, this bold and sincere piece documents over sixty real-life testimonies and pays tribute to the supporters who lost their lives.
It’s been 31 years since the tragedy, where a small fire broke out in the main stand on the last game of the season, having the wooden structure ablaze within minutes; The 56 shows the togetherness and untold strength of community following in the face of utter devastation. Tom Lodge, Danielle Phillips and Will Taylor star in this dramatic piece brought to the stage by LUNG Theatre, with it written by Matt Woodhead (who also expertly directs) and Gemma Wilson. Theatre at its best breathes hope through stories and takes pathos ridden tales and shares real thoughts and emotion through them, and there aren’t going to be many more compelling examples of that than The 56.
