Newcastle’s Vane Gallery are celebrating their tenth anniversary with a new exhibition featuring ten of their artists, including a couple of home-grown stars, in an exhibition running until Saturday 5th September. Ten showcases the work of nineteen international artists represented by Vane and scratches the surface on their incredible achievements over the last decade.

Having opened their first gallery in July 2005, Vane moved into their current location six years later, at Commercial Union House on Pilgrim Street. The gallery’s prominent city centre location has helped enable them spread their reach even further.

Disciplines range from pop art collages and photo manipulation (Stephen Palmer) to psychedelic drawings and 3D sculptures (Jock Mooney). Both of these artists are based in London, but Vane represent artists from as far as Germany (EC Davies, Kerstin Drechsel, Flora Whiteley, John Ebner), Iceland (Dodda Maggy), Puerto Rico (Josué Pellot) and South Africa (Nick Fox).

That’s without even mentioning the highly talented individuals from much closer to home, including Michael Mulvihill, born in Jarrow, and nature enthusiast Alison Unsworth, who lives in Rowlands Gill.

So dust off your arty party hat and dial-up your Happy Birthday singing voice to 11: Vane are well-deserving of this tenth birthday celebration.

Ten is at Vane Gallery, Newcastle until Saturday 5th September.
