Ark Noise are bringing more mystic and hardcore synthetic sounds to Tyneside on Valentine’s Day when the collective bring a quintet of experimental and artistic groups down to the Head of Steam. If you like your electronic music a little off the wall, then Ark Noise will have you covered.

Ten Sticks’ stripped back set-up, containing only a drummer and lone synthesizer, belies the amount of noise they can actually make. Their constant energy and sudden eruptions of noise from small beginnings is a running theme in their songs, making sure that audiences stand up and notice. Expect a barrage of cacophonous noise with some ambient undertones from them.

Glottolstop is the latest project from Petrels man Oli Barrett, who released his LP Woodsmoke last year. Consisting entirely of two long-form tracks, Glottolstop’s music is comprised wholly of sounds found on tape recordings, some of which date back 20 years. With some added cello and electronic improvisation, Glottolstop’s work creates a dense textural collage of noise and sound that’s altogether haunting.

Dominic Deane, aka Ten, mixes ambient and experimental electronica sounds into a mesh of shoegaze noise, which has seen him gain slots supporting Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai and Lucky Dragons among others. Meanwhile Max Bondi, otherwise known as the founder of Taratuga Records, released his second LP Convolution last year to great acclaim from the underground press. Finally, Laid Eyes round off the bill with a collection of video artworks; with a background in visual anthropology, he is currently working on making digital video works that explore abstract forms (a perfect complement to the experimental nature of the night).

If you’re looking for something a little bit different to do this Valentine’s Day then look no further.

Ten Sticks, Glottolstop, Ten, Max Bondi and Laid Eye all play at the Head of Steam, Newcastle on Saturday 14th February.
