There’s something intrinsically Christmassy about listening to stories. Not only is it an excuse to get out of the cold, it’s also an opportunity to revel in the creativity of your fellow man. What better time then for a spot of storytelling – in the warm environs of one of Newcastle’s most brilliant cafes no less? Local writing group Radikal Words present the second in a series of spoken word events, Telling Tales, at Blakes on Newcastle’s Grey Street, on Wednesday 10th December.

The first Telling Tales was held in October, and attracted an impressive array of writing talent from not only the North East but also further afield. This time around will likewise play host to readings from a selection of very special guest storytellers. Poet Pauline Plummer, for example, will be exhibiting her talent for short stories, and will be joined by other writers, namely Sheree Mack, Ye Minn, Yvonne Young and musician/ song-writer Simma, whose acoustic shows have become the stuff of legends around Newcastle.

There will also be the opportunity to take to the mic and tell your own story. With five minute slots available for budding wordsmiths in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, this is your chance to impress by crafting something that little bit more than just another winter’s tale…

Telling Tales takes place at Blake’s Café on Wednesday 10th December.
