Newcastle band TCHOTCHKE launch their debut album at Bobiks on Saturday 9th November, and it’s a delicious demonstration of their shoegazey alt. rock sound. Titled Life Gets In the Way – a concept we’re likely all familiar with – it was recorded at Sage Gateshead and shows a clear progression from their earlier recordings.

The album’s a melting pot of styles, all underpinned by scuzzy shoegaze and strong melodies. Kicking off with a cacophony of sparkling synth and scatter gun drums on Turn Yourself Around, the fuzzy Rock & Roll is nicely retro, while the spacey Tightrope is a lush demonstration of the dreamy alt. pop they do so well. The distorted riot of Day Out Day In provides some welcome noisiness, while the sprawling howl of guitars on 50,000 Miles will be familiar to fans from the band’s previous Lost & Found EP. Unafraid to wear their influences on their sleeves, fans of My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth will find much to enjoy.

Having supported bands like Hers, The Primitives and The Dears in the past, their album launch will feature Newcastle’s alt. popsters Headclouds.
