TakeOff Festival, England’s leading children’s theatre festival, returns to Durham from Monday 16th to Sunday 22nd October for a week filled with top shows for all the family.

Theatre Hullabaloo are responsible for bringing along the annual festival, now celebrating its 30th year, with 2017 set to be bigger and better than ever. Highlights from this year’s spectacular programme include Leaf (0-3) a playful theatrical experience for the very young inspired by nature and the seasons, and Close (3-6) a charming non-verbal play that explores themes of friendship from Mexican company Teatro Al Vacio.

The Party (3-8) is a topsy-turvy family circus treat about friends and not always getting what you want… there’s even pass the parcel for the whole audience to play!

Older young people are invited to watch Twist (13+) in a radical adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver’s struggle for sanctuary is framed by the refugee crisis, a global phenomenon fast defining the 21st Century.

The TakeOff Festival Family Day on Saturday 21st October in Durham City brings the week to a close with 15+ performances including Micro-Shakespeare, a pay what you decide event which casts the audience as a performer or viewer of 5 mini-Shakespeare classics played out using cheese graters and plasticine. The Flying Bazazi Brothers will also be on hand to entertain you during the day with their juggling double act.

There’s also lots of arts and crafty fun, storytelling and a whole load more.

All this as well as arts & crafts, storytelling and a Fairy Tale Trail, bubbles galore will fill the streets make this a great day out for the whole family!
