The country’s leading children’s theatre festival returns this month, as TakeOff Festival is set to provide another fantastic week of top-class entertainment right across County Durham and the surrounding area from Monday 17th until Sunday 23rd October. With a full timetable available of the awesome events on offer here, there’s plenty to fill your days.
With this year being even bigger and better, over 70s shows across 22 venues leaves plenty to be seen, and there’s a plethora of exciting shows and activities to go to. With children from as young as 6 months able to get swept away by Stillmotion’s production of We Dance, Wee Grove on Wednesday 19th October, it’s an enriching experience to celebrate dance, music and imaginative play. The 6 year olds and above are catered for plenty too, one standout allows them to discover the true stories behind the happily ever after fairytales as a mysterious storyteller unravels the tale of Cinderella where she dies and becomes a zombie who falls in love with a vampire prince. Then there’s the re-imagining of the tale of Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf-hunter who never leaves home without her shield and axe, with both stories excitingly brought to life in new ways in Fairytales Gone Bad: Zombie-rella/Blood-red Hoo on Thursday 20th October.
There’s lots of other exciting shows to choose from, with something for everyone covering every age range, whether it’s Neverland on Saturday 22nd October for the really little ones or the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party later the same day, checking out the listings and making a plan is a must. Theatre can be such a joyful experience, it’s only fair the young ‘uns get a chance to sample this early too.
