Anarchy Brewery is a multi-purpose site in Benfield, lying just to the east of Newcastle’s city centre. As you’d expect, their own range of cask beers is second to none but they’ve also turned their hands to staging gigs, shows and exhibitions thanks to the site’s versatility.

On Friday 24th January they host T.V. Smith, former frontman of The Adverts, who became one of the pioneers of the 1970s punk scene. After three impactful years in which they became one of the first punk outfits to enjoy UK chart success, T.V. Smith would go on to enjoy a career spanning four decades, both with his solo works and through projects such as With TV Smith’s Explorers. His own longevity is testament to his own creativity and adaptability, while some of The Adverts’ early works has been judged much more kindly in the modern day. Their second album, Cast of Thousands, was panned by critics when it was released but has since been described by Mojo as “the long lost punk album that rivals London Calling”.

T.V. Smith’s own solo shows draw on the entirety of his extensive back catalogue and maintains the original punk spirit with which he first made his name.
