Arts Centre Washington is about to host some incredible nights of unforgettable drama throughout May, as students from the University of Sunderland put on performances of both classic and contemporary texts, to form Sunfest 2016.

The plays on show include Russian satirical theatre in the form of The Drunks by Mikhail and Vyacheslav Durnenkov on Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th May; Juno And The Paycock by Sean O’Casey, with the adaptations of this highly regarded piece on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th May.There’s The Plough And The Stars, also by Sean O’Casey on Saturday 14th May, and Restoration comedy The Country Wife by William Wycherley on Thursday 19th and Saturday 21st May. It’s all drawn to a close with two classics from the pen of William Shakespeare, with King Lear on Thursday 26th May and The Tempest on Saturday 28th May. There’s so much to choose from, and it’s a chance to see heartfelt, passionate adaptations by fresh talents on all time classics; the month of May is definitely a month for theatre in Sunderland.

Sunfest takes place across May at Arts Centre Washington.
