This month fans of comic books and graphic novels can look forward to a celebration of the artists and writers who ink their favourite characters to life at Sunderland Comic Book Convention, taking place at The Seaburn Centre on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February.

Also known as the North East Comic Book Festival, the convention is the first of its kind in Sunderland and is the second event set-up by organisers, Black Hearted press, who also run the popular Glasgow Comic Con. Like its Scottish counterpart, Sunderland Comic Con promises to be more than your typical commercial affair with an emphasis on the art form, a host of British creative talents plus free signings, workshops, exhibitions and talks.

Across the weekend avid readers will have the opportunity to meet big names from DC Comics, including John Higgins and Barry Kitson, 2000 AD legend John Wagner and The Beano artist Nigel Parkinson, plus independent cartoonists such as Karrie Fransman, Hunt Emerson and Wigan’s Mary and Byran Talbot – the creators of the award winning graphic novel, Dotter of Her Father’s Eyes.

Sunderland Comic Con will take place at The Seaburn Centre on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February.
