Reliably informed

A couple of weeks ago, the good people at Darlington’s Avalon invited us to keep the Sabbath holy and worship at the altar of rock. In the second of their series of beer garden gigs they’re encouraging us to do it all again and this time they’ve got a line up that even the Lord himself couldn’t pass up.

Headlining the event are enigmatic garage-rockers and Teesside favourites Avalanche Party, bringing the sounds of their latest EP to the Darlo outdoors. Known for their blistering live performances, don’t expect them to turn the volume down in the garden. They’re joined by the dark and gritty Cellar Door, who combine a good deal of swagger with a dose of bombastic guitar riffs and clattering drums to create enthralling nuggets of rock glory. Turning down the volume a little will be Second Sun, performing some more laid-back, lo-fi tunes that’s the perfect accompaniment to a warm summer’s day. Kobadelta will be making sure you’re not too chilled by providing a slice of their raw and powerful not-quite-psych rock.

Rounding off the bill are rock-pop hybrid Astoma, ragtag Darlo bunch The Baddies and the North East Songwriter of the Year 2014 Eve Conway. It’ll be like a miniature festival of the region’s great and good that no Darlo native will want to miss out on.

Sunday Service 2 takes place at Avalon, Darlington on Sunday 26th July.
