Since Split Festival came to a close, Sunderland has been looking for a new festival to crown the summer months. The team behind Summer Streets however believe they have the answer, with a special free entry one-day event taking place on Saturday 15th July in Thompson Park, Southwick.

Headlining the band are perennial local favourites Frankie & the Heartstrings, whose frontman Frankie Francis has assured us that the band “will be playing a greatest hits set with a full brass ensemble, so it’s definitely not one to be missed.”

Joining them on the day are the reliably brilliant Warm Digits, who will be treating the crowd to some old favourites as well as previews of their stunning forthcoming album Wireless World (out in August on Memphis Industries), as well as sublime folk duo Cath & Phil Tyler and a plethora of upcoming acts like Dennis and Picnic.

As well as all this, there’s also a variety of musical workshops for the crowd to join in with, including sacred hard singing with Cath & Phil Tyler, a drop-in choir session with Jennie Brewis from The Cornshed Sisters, and the chance to try Caribbean Steel Pan drums, West African djembes and bass drums.

A diverse and welcoming day of music then surely awaits all visitors to Summer Streets in Sunderland on Saturday 15th July.
