Film-makers of the North East, rejoice. Eyes Wide Open, one of a series of regular nights at the Star and Shadow Cinema, takes place on Sunday 21st December, encouraging creative-types to submit their own films, and putting a regional platform at their fingertips.

Visitors to the venue will know that it revels in DIY-creativity and alternative cultures, as well as celebrating the unusual. All types of film is welcome therefore, whether that be drama, documentary, experimental, animation, or even a slideshow of your holiday snaps. It’s a chance to have your work shown in front of like minded people in a friendly environment – they might even, out of interest, ask a few questions.

The show-and-tell is inspired by events held by Kino Climates, a European network of independent cinema spaces and screening organisations. The Star and Shadow shares in this mindset and, being a volunteer-run organisation, is always eager to support freedom and diversity in film programming. One of the aims is to investigate whether there is a possibility of putting together a touring program of film-makers from the North East of England to be shown in alternative cinemas around Europe. Not just an exciting regional audience then, but maybe even an international one.
