A spring tour is about to get underway for a play from some of theatre’s brightest, freshest talents. Stowaway comes to various venues throughout February and March, with the first show in the North East at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Wednesday 24th February.

The play, written by Hannah Barker and Lewis Hetherington, is a challenging look at one man’s life, far adrift from his home in India and the world he knows. Chasing an impossible future, we jump through time and follow his tale through his extraordinary journey. Moving to the UAE for the promise of work and prosperity he then finds himself trapped in a Dubai labour camp, and with no other chance of escape, he hides in the wheel well of a plane bound for the UK, in hope of a better life. It’s a piece of theatre which pushes boundaries, and utilises storytelling as a political act.

Also taking in The Customs House, South Shields on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th February, ARC, Stockton on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd March, Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre on Friday 4th March and Saltburn Community Theatre on Saturday 5th March. It takes in further dates at Alnwick Playhouse on Tuesday 8th March, Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, Hexham on Wednesday 9th March; Arts Centre Washington has two dates on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th March, before leaving the North East and continuing the tour in Scotland, with a final date at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre on Saturday 12th March.

It’s a brave story being told, as one man wakes up, face down, sprawled in his single bed, knowing today is the day he is going to change his life. It’s a journey whole audiences will get swept away on with him, in a play that is bold and brave but still has earnestly telling a special story at its heart.
