One of the beauties of modern day photography techniques is the ability for the photographer to take an alternate view of the world. Helen Taylor has done exactly this with her first solo exhibition, entitled Stanley2, taking place at Stanley Civic Hall from Saturday 14th March until Tuesday 14th April.

Scenes of unreality and mind-bending perspectives depict Helen’s hometown in a variety of unusual ways. Using the ‘multiple exposure’ technique – achieved without using Photoshop or digital editing – the images have all been taken on Helen’s 35mm Holga 135BC analogue camera. The images present an unreal looking ‘ghost world’, where the lines between what is real and what is not are blurred. “I wanted to draw peoples’ attention to things that they may otherwise walk past without really noticing,” Helen explains. “The resulting photos have a delicate quality and the multiple exposures melt into each other with no distinct edges of where one ends and the other begins.”

Stanley2 is exhibited at Stanley Civic Hall, County Durham from Saturday 14th March until Tuesday 14th April.
