An evening of laid-back feel-good guitar and campfire anti-folk comes to Middlesbrough’s Town Hall Courtroom on Friday 13th September courtesy of Jumpin’ Hot Club and Mr Stanley Brinks with The Wave Pictures. Known as a member of John Peel favourites Herman Dune in a former life, Stanley has lived a solo musical life on the road since 2006. The Paris-born singer and guitarist has somehow recorded 100 albums in the brief interludes snatched between playing venues in Europe and beyond.

London rock trio The Wave Pictures have been frequent collaborators, and they add bite and spice to Stanley’s easy calypso and Americana. The Wave Pictures started out covering Jonathan Richmond sometime towards the end of the last century, which serves as a good starting point of reference for their combined sound.

On support duties, French musician Freschard will ooze Gallic charm through her set sprinkled with quirky lyrics and accompanied by Stanley’s guitar refrains. Having been a long-term collaborator of Stanley’s, their undeniable chemistry is a joy to watch.

It’s always a pleasure to watch live music in a genuine Victorian courtroom, lending instant atmosphere to any event. Not that you need to invent any ambience when it comes to this bill of musical charmers.
