In 2007, after fifteen years of delighting fans with some of the best blues music around, the Stanley Blues Festival were forced to call it a day. Eight years later and reinvigorated, the festival is now returning as part of a fortnight of cultural events in the town, with help from Stanley Town Council and Stanley Events.

This year’s revived event has an impressive line up of performers to whet the appetite of any blues fan, including sets from Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes, who bill themselves as the UK’s number one blues outfit (a fact probably cemented further by their wonderfully engaging live performances). The Kingbees and Struggle Buggy are also on the bill, as is Johnny Dickinson with his mesmerising slide guitar craft. Of course no Bank Holiday festival would be complete without all the extras and the event delivers with food stalls, a dedicated bar and activities to keep the kids occupied as well.

Councillor Carl Marshall said: “We recognise the need for a regional blues festival and hope to build on the town’s previous success as home to one of Europe’s largest free outdoor blues events […] We have managed to secure a great line up of national and regional bands and hope the event will allow up and coming blues bands to showcase their talents.”

With a strong line up and acres of support, it’s doubtful it’ll be another eight years before the next Stanley Blues Fest.

Stanley Blues Festival takes place at Oakies Park, Stanley on Sunday 30th August.
