Stand-up comedy is an art form that has been bringing joy to people for decades, but sometimes comedians need a little help too. That’s where new charity Comedy Support Act comes in. Set up by professional comedians for professional comedians, it is a new venture for the comedy circuit who provide backing for comedians who are unable to work. They’ve been funded by benefit shows across the UK, and one such benefit show comes to Newcastle’s The Stand on Sunday 13th December.

With the aim of providing emergency funds and assistance to professional comedians who find themselves in financial hardship through serious illness or accident, it’s a very worthy cause, supported by a stupendously good line-up.

Daniel Sloss has numerous TV appearances behind him, even stretching as far as Conan and The late Late Show in the US; he’s a fantastic comedian, who’ll be joined by some other immensely talented and well respected comics. This includes the always inventive Dave Johns, the happy-go-lucky attitude of Kai Humphries (whose Punch Drunk comedy nights are a massive success in our region), the political ponderings of John Scott, some hilarious storytelling from Steffen Peddie and the affable and warm host Fred Macaulay.

It’s a phenomenal line-up, in aid of something very wonderful to support those who try their best to put a bit of laughter in the world.

Stand Up For Stand-Up takes place at The Stand, Newcastle on Sunday 13th December.
