With Valentines Day fast approaching, love seemed the obvious choice as the theme for the next Stand Spotlight night at the Newcastle comedy venue for the show on Tuesday 7th February. The show, which pulls together some of the rising stars of the comedy scene and tasks them with coming up with new material on a particular topic also seeks to raise money for a good cause with every show, and this month it’s The People’s Kitchen.
Even while dedicated to newer acts, the shows have pulled together some very strong line-ups, and next month’s gig is no different. There’s the engaging warmth and sharp lines of Tom Lawrinson, smart writing from Luke Connell, the storytelling style of Jake Donaldson, the captivatingly cheeky and silly Sammy Dobson, talented newcomer Lorna Rose Treen, intelligent and immensely funny David Callaghan and host and all round cheeky chappy Jack Gleadow. They’ll each discuss love in their own unique way, and in the process raise a lot of money for a charity ran by local volunteers that provides food, friendship and practical support to those in need. A worthy cause, a lot of laughs and the chance to see some talented funny people doing things just for this night, the Stand Spotlight shows continue to be the little understated gem in the Stand’s comedy crown.
