It seems like only a blink of an eye since last year’s first ever Spring Salon in Ouseburn – an offshoot of the hugely popular Open Studios, which annually take place in November – bringing independent art and design talent to the highly competitive Crimbo gift market.

Yet, as last year proved, there is a thirst for such an event, even once the frost has cleared, with the event returning on Sunday 29th March.

It seems like an equally short stint since Mushroom Works – one of Ouseburn’s artistic tent-poles – opened its doors in 2005. A former chapel, brass foundry and confectionary wholesalers cum-gallery and studio space, the venue is indicative of the ways in which the area has strengthened its creative and cultural credentials over the past decade. Over the weekend, they will be inviting back some previous tenants and showcasing paintings, jewellery and furniture to see and buy, they’ll be open on both Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March.

Also participating are fellow Ouseburn staples 36 Lime Street, where there will be unique objects and beautiful artworks on offer, plus the option to commission your very own special piece direct with an artist; The Biscuit Tin is a workspace for artists and printmakers, where you can view the work of designers using traditional and new media, filmmakers and photographers; and the Biscuit Factory, where the gallery’s spring exhibitions jostle for space amongst jewellers, textile makers, photographers and painters.

Spring Salon takes place at various locations in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle on Sunday 29th March.
