One of Teesside’s hottest new cultural venues plays host to two very exciting projects this month. The House of Blah Blah – no connection to the entourage of flamboyant songstress Lady Gaga – launches its inspired spring programme with an exhibition and a fashion show – and thankfully there’s not a meat dress in sight.

Blah Blah opened last July: a multi-purpose gallery space with additional studios, warehouse, photo-lab and archive. Founded by local artists and designers, it is situated in the grandiose environs of a Grade II listed former Post Office in the heart of Middlesbrough’s Victorian Quarter. This means you can enjoy some of the region’s finest bands, DJs and modern art – all while feeling right classy to boot.

Exhibition On The Sticks opens on Thursday 12th March, bringing together work from a range of contemporary Tees-based painters, including Deb Covell, Phil Larry, David Watson and Kraig Wilson (with more artists still to be announced at the time of going to print). This jamboree of home-grown, wonderfully diverse talent runs until Thursday 23rd April.

The aforementioned fashion extravaganza takes place in the Warehouse part of the venue on Friday 20th March. Hosted by fashion collective House of Freaks, it will team independent boutiques from across the region together to stage a one-night-only celebration of the latest trends – not to mention the vogues that have come back in style. All proceeds will be going to charity: a perfect cherry on top of an evening of glamour.

The venue continues to unite Teesside’s very best artists and designers, like some kind of arty-pop super group. ‘Blah blah’ is defined in the dictionary as something which is boring or without content. This eclectic menagerie of home-grown talent is anything but, and proof that, as a region, we were simply born that way.

The House of Blah Blah is located at Exchange Square, Marton Road, Middlesbrough.
