Continuing with their eightieth birthday celebrations, Tyneside Cinema focus on another legendary director this month, as The Luminaries season continues: this time focusing on Steven Spielberg, with a selection of his greatest movies playing on the big screen.

Arguably the most famous and influential film-maker of the past 40 years, Steven Spielberg has defined big screen storytelling for generations of movie-goers. From pioneering blockbusters to award-winning dramas, he has created a body of work that is unparalleled by any of his contemporaries and adored by film lovers the world over.

Audiences can see if they need a bigger bag of popcorn as they watch the amazing Jaws on Friday 7th July, before reeling at the thrill of the awesome set-pieces of Jurassic Park on Saturday 8th July. Spielberg’s serious side is also covered with showings of the affecting The Color Purple, the staggering Schindler’s List which garnered him with his first Oscar, and the genre defining Saving Private Ryan which paved the way for war movies to come – all taking place over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of July.

For those looking to get behind the screen and into the director’s head, The Telegraph’s film critic and writer Tim Robey will be giving a special illustrated talk discussing the director’s output on Saturday 22nd July.

Spielberg Season is at Tyneside Cinema throughout July.
