If you’ve already paid a visit to the Baltic Shop, you don’t need me to tell you that it’s a money pit. I literally cannot set foot in the place without blowing a fortune (I have a weakness for the jewellery and art books). On a positive note it is a great place for unique Christmas gifts, and this year is no exception. One of the current exhibitions is They Used To Call It The Moon (a fascinating collection of space exhibits including 2001: A Space Odyssey scripts), a must see for sci-fi fans and anyone whose imagination is ignited by all things lunar related.

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition, replica 50s and 60s classic tin robot and spaceship toys are now on offer from the shop and also online, which upon first sight bring to mind classic shows like The Jetsons and Forbidden Planet. For less than £20 you can pick up nostalgic items such as the Sky Express Chinese Rocket, a moon walking robot, a Red Ship Commander Flying Saucer and other retro space gifts – just get in there quick, they’re about to take off.

You can get your Space is the Place gifts from the BALTIC Shop now.
