Comedian Sophie Willan returns to the region with a unique show this month. Having tasted success with her BBC Radio 4 show Sophie Willan’s Guide to Normality last year, the break-out comedian heads out on tour to road-test ideas for the second series.

Having had what she cites as an ‘unconventional’ childhood being brought up in the care system, Sophie sets out to discover exactly what’s so great about being ‘normal’ anyway. The first series tackled such subjects as being a parent, getting a job, being monogamous and being polite in a middle class world, and we’re excited to see where she’ll take series number two.

Willan’s no stranger to the region’s stand-up scene, having brought her Branded show to the North East last year. Challenging perceptions around class, race, feminism and Northern identity, with an aim to make the audience think as well as laugh, she’s a skilful comic who manages to merge the personal with the political in a well-structured, thoughtful way, making her show at The Witham in Barnard Castle on Monday 13th May a real must-see.

Support on the night comes from ‘outsider’ comic and Chortle best newcomer 2014 nominee Jonny Pelham.
