House, techno, indie, rock, Northern Soul, disco and funk al under one roof. That’s what Independent’s newest weekly club night promises as it fast approaches its launch event on Saturday 31st January. The venue has always been committed to pushing the boundaries and bringing a diverse range of music to its punters but SOMA is a unique opportunity to bring their manifesto to the clubs crowd.

To mark the beginning of SOMA, the Independent have lined up a small host of big-name acts to DJ at the event (because what would a club night be without DJs?) Heading up the bill are Sunderland favourites and critically acclaimed darlings Hyde and Beast, who are likely to spin an off-kilter mix of genres in a set that should include tracks from their influences and fresher cuts. Joining them are DC 10/ Circo Loco DJ Clive Henry and Independent resident Aram Stuart, who promise a spine-tingling combo of beats, a funk and soul slam down and even a smattering of Ethiopian jazz.

The high profile acts will continue to come to SOMA over the next few months, with DJs Blackhall and Bookless, Ian Blevins and indie band PEACE all set to take to the decks in the near future. If you’re down on Wearside and you’re in the mood for some seriously eclectic tunes to get a groove on to then SOMA is the club night for you.

SOMA launches on Saturday 31st January at Independent, Sunderland.
