Reliably informed

Darlington-based promoters Soapbox Sessions are encouraging a bit of audience participation at their new free events. Running every Sunday at Hole In The Wall in Darlington, the gigs are run by David Saunders, who aims to shine a light on songwriters from far and wide, with open mic-style slots available for musicians or comedians. Need to get something off your chest? Take part in their One Minute Rant – they ring the bell, you let rip and don’t stop until they ring it again. The best rant gets a pint.

Musical loveliness on offer throughout July includes Bernaccia frontman Jonathan Noble on Sunday 5th; solo artist Jack Gugi on Sunday 12th; semi-acoustic, toe-tappin’ sounds from Occasionally Ben on Sunday 19th; and poetic and soulful music from Will McTaggart on Sunday 26th July. Plenty more top talent is confirmed for August onwards, with Serinette, Bad Bob Bates and a stripped down set from Goy Boy McIlroy already in the pipeline.

David’s a bit of a crooner himself too; the frontman of blues rock behemoths Goy Boy McIlroy, not to mention being a purveyor of saucy comedy, it’s certain he knows talent when he sees it, so get these dates in your diary!

Soapbox Sessions take place every Sunday at Hole In The Wall, Darlington.
