Slugtown is an artist-run gallery in Newcastle that started up in a house in Heaton in 2017. The collective who ran it turned their front room into a gallery space and hosted solo exhibitions by early-career artists, workshops and community engagement events. At that location, they hosted eleven on-site and two off-site exhibitions

After an eighteen month hiatus, the collective return and in Spring/Summer of this year will have a permanent home in Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne. This new location will be used to host a series of solo exhibitions and an expanded workshop programme supported by Arts Council England.

The good people at Slugtown have launched a Crowdfunder campaign and are asking for your help to raise six thousand pounds to cover the essential refurbishing costs of the unit they are due to move into. If you’d like to make a pledge to help with the project then click here.

Nearly 50 artists have kindly donated work to the fundraiser, as rewards for various pledge amounts. These works of art can be viewed at an exhibition entitled Slugfund at 36 Gallery in Ouseburn which previews on Friday 20th March (6-8pm) and runs from 21st-22nd March. It will include the contributions to the Crowdfunder campaign, including unique artworks, limited editions, prints and Slugtown merchandise all available to buy. There will also be a number of exclusive items not available on the Crowdfunder campaign. Including work from Pester and Rossi, Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan, Gabriella Boyd, Joe Fletcher Orr, Jemma Egan and Joe Shaw.

Hi-res images of all donations and more info about the project, can be found here.
