Reliably informed

Addressing skinhead culture, from the late 60s’ movement with its indelible partnership with ska and reggae, to the subculture immersed in the punk movement of the 70s, a new book published by trendy arts publisher and print studio Ditto Press aims to reflect the powerful aesthetic sensibility of the movement.

An accompanying exhibition, also entitled Skinhead: An Archive, comes to Newcastle’s own edgy imprint, NewBridge Books from Friday 8th April until Friday 6th May, displaying a wealth of unseen visual material, and containing unpublished material from ‘zines, posters and films, as well as touching on fascist interpretation, socialist counterpoints, queer skinhead culture, exploitation literature, skin girls and everything in between.

In what promises to be a fascinating discussion on Saturday 9th April, publishers Ben Freeman and art director Jamie Andrew Reid plus artist, designer and punk historian Toby Mott will be in conversation from 2pm.

Skinhead: An Archive is at NewBridge Books from Friday 8th April until Friday 6th May.
