There’s no-one quite like Ben Chasny. His Six Organs Of Admittance project encompasses everything from oddball folk to dreamy drones, expansive guitars and textured percussive elements. His latest project for uber cool label Drag City is entitled Hexadic, in which Chasny takes a novel approach to creating music. The Hexadic System was inspired by Ramon Llull, a 14th century monk, and Chasny uses it to make random choices via a pack of playing cards to create music; Chasny aligns the cards with the notes on his guitar’s neck by using suits and numbers, enabling him to make choices without involving his native instinct. As you’d expect, the music that blossoms from the mathematical process is highly unpredictable, resulting in sprawling electric guitar lines with noisy interludes and disorientating vocals.

Surely the product of a restless and capacious intellect, don’t miss this opportunity to get under the skin of Chasny’s unique and masterful genius.

Six Organs Of Admittance play The Cluny, Newcastle on Thursday 18th June.
